Raising Real Men - A Timberdoodle Review

Raising Real Men Book Review - Helps to understand sons #RasingRealMen by A Slice of Homeschool

I was very pleased to have been selected as part of Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team. One of the aspects I love about this company is the abundant amount of items they offer to parents interested in educational products for their children.

As part of my first review, Timberdoodle sent me the book Raising Real Men - Surviving, Teaching, and Appreciating Boys by Hal and Melanie Young.

Having two very energetic boys, I couldn't wait to dig into this book.  Being a female, I have to admit that I don't always understand the male species.  Therefore, I was looking forward to this book assisting me in better comprehending two of the most important people in my life.  This book did not disappoint me.

Through the use of scriptures and using many examples from their own family, the Youngs, in the first part of the book, helped me understand the answers to a lot of the questions I had been asking myself.  These answers related to:
  • Boys' attraction to heroes
  • Discipline
  • Their need for adventure
  • The steps to take in teaching them to be independent
  • How to help them become leaders
  • How to guide their imaginative play in regards to weapons
  • How to help them use their need for competition in a positive way
  • When to offer them "real things" to do and what this does for their character
In the second part of Raising Real Men, you'll learn how to teach your sons "the things they will need to interact in society, to lead their families, and to serve God."  This includes:
  • The importance of teaching them the Word of God, including examples
  • How to teach your sons to be faithful stewards
  • The answers to some of the mysteries in schooling your sons (This section titled "Your Own School for Boys" was one of the most valuable sections of the book for me.)
  • What the Bible says about manners and how it relates to our sons
  • How to make indoor chores more boy-friendly
  • How to approach the topic of sex and Biblical courtship
    • How to prepare our sons to become providers and use discernment in choosing a college
You'll understand this photo after you've read the book.

I am delighted to add Raising Real Men as an excellent resource book to my home library.  It is one that I can come back to again and again as I teach my sons the necessary steps in becoming men.

Disclosure: As a member of Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team, I received a free copy of Raising Real Men to review on my blog. The opinions I have given are mine and may differ from others but were not influenced by the company or the free product provided.
