Do you find you're busier in the summer than you are during the school year?

Every year I look forward to our summer thinking that I'll be able to sit back and read books and relax and casually prepare for the following school year, but I find that the books I do get to read tend to be read right before I go to sleep, any school preparation tends to fall by the wayside until the month (or weeks) before our new school year begins.

So I must say it seems that our summers tend to be so much busier than our regular school year.  This summer our homeschool group has been participating in weekly nature studies.  (Our children thus far have learned about amphibians and reptiles, pond life, and herbs.)

Between VBS, garage sales, spending time with friends, splash pads, etc., I see summer quickly passing away.  But I have to tell you that I wouldn't have it any other way.  I LOVE OUR SUMMERS!

What about you, have you and your children been having a busy summer or is your family more the type that has fun things to do around your home like milk the goats, feed the chickens, explore the woods, etc?  If we had a farm, I think I would really enjoy spending our summers that way too.

  1. We do live in the woods with chickens and goats (not for milking), but we find ourselves pretty busy too! It's more a lot of fun days though, to keep my boys busy since we aren't schooling. That will change in about a week and a half :)

  2. We've had a lot of fun this summer, but many of my best intentions had to be laid aside....such as the hammock I wanted to set up to relax and read in. We had some "issues" with our yard that have taken far longer than anticipated to take care of, as in, I'm still trying to complete the job!

Maybe I'll have a lovely hammock spot to use for awhile in the fall....

  3. Sue, I know what you mean. I have a swing on my deck and I have rarely had a chance to sit in it but that's not only due to "busyness" but to the hot weather as well.
