Help Your Children Remember Their Answered Prayers

I am teaching my children the power of prayer.  My oldest son has already experienced many answered prayers in his young life.  A couple of years ago, in order to help him not forget these precious memories, I had him start an "Answered Prayers" journal.  My hope is that this will be a book that he will come back to again and again, both when he experiences a prayer not answered - at least not answered in the way he may desire - and when he experiences more answered prayers.  I believe that by having this journal to refer to it will help him grow in his relationship with God.

When I read through his journal, it helps me to remember that God answers both small and big prayers.  With my son's permission, I'd like to share some of his answered prayers.

I spent two hours looking for my Hex bug and couldn't find it.  It was making me upset.  My mom asked us to form a prayer circle and ask God to help us find it.  A half-hour later, I found it.

I had a basketball game to go to but my mom wanted to stop at our church to drop off a blanket and some socks that were going to be taken to hand out to some homeless people.  I was worried that we would be late to my game.  My mom said that God would take care of everything.

On the way to the game every single light was green.  We arrived on time.  God did take care of everything.

In the summer of 2010, my mom and I were building with Legos.  I was desperately searching for a Lego piece and couldn't find it.  My mom told me to ask God to help us.  Within a couple of minutes after my prayer, my mom picked up some Legos and when she opened her hand, the missing Lego was sitting in her hand.

I talked to my mom about my struggles with my brother, how we have a difficult time playing without fighting.  My mom told me that as my brother matures there will be fewer conflicts between us.

The next day my brother and I played nicely together for two hours.  I felt that God had listened to my mom's and my conversation and answered an unspoken prayer by showing me what it will be like with my brother as he gets older.

Obviously, an "Answered Prayers" journal isn't just for children. :-)

  1. How wonderful! We all should remember what we have prayed for and see the result in our wonderful mighty God.

  2. What a sweet post! I love it.
