About Me

Welcome to A Slice of Homeschool Pie!

Hi, I'm Clara! If you enjoy reading topics about raising boys, are new or a veteran to homeschooling, or just enjoy reading articles you can relate to, this is the place for you.

Let me share a little bit about myself. I have been married for almost two decades to my best friend and am blessed to be the mother of two very extraordinary boys! Life with sons is NEVER boring.

Sometimes I can be a bit quirky, but the one thing you'll learn about me is that I am "real". What you see is what you get.

I'm the kind of person who enjoys reaching out to others, especially those whom I sense are in need of friendships. I want each individual to know that they matter.

My homeschooling career began in 2004. I knew I wanted my son, who was four-years-old at the time, to have a Christian education, but private school was not an option due to its cost. I spent a full summer researching the topic of homeschooling including information about various teaching styles. By the end of the summer, I felt confident that homeschooling was something I could do. Read more about why we chose to homeschool.

Being able to home educate my children has been a wonderful gift for me. I remember feeling a bit lost after having my first child. I didn't know quite what my purpose in life was. Prior to having children, I had always worked outside of the home. Homeschooling filled that void within me. It helped to fulfill what I feel was ultimately God's purpose for this stage of my life.

Homeschooling my children has not only given me the opportunity to spend a lot of time with them, but along the way it has taught me many things about myself, and has brought me closer to God.

About A Slice of Homeschool Pie:

I originally created this blog in the hopes of encouraging other home educators along this mutual journey we're on by including snippets of my family's daily educational and life adventures and sharing articles written by curriculum publishers and other experienced home educators; written reviews about various curriculum, products, or programs; and other resources.
I've recently included a new topic about raising boys. I have a 16-year-old son, and an eleven-year-old son. By sharing my experiences with my sons with you, my goal is to help parents who are trying to raise Godly men.

Also, of course, there will always be discussions related to everyday living.

The story behind my blog title:

What does "pie" have to do with homeschooling?

When I picture the end of my family's homeschool journey, I envision this wonderfully tasting pie sitting on top of my stove just waiting to be devoured (Yes, devoured is the perfect word!).

This will be a pie that took a lot of time and effort to put together. My willingness in making it would stem from my confidence that once baked, it would be one of the best tasting pies ever!

It will include tasty morsels of character training, stewardship, academics, and the knowledge about Christ's love - all the things that my children (and I) will have learned throughout our homeschool journey.

This pie will be one which I will look forward to devouring once our homeschool journey is completed.
